Review: Essence Made To Sparkle Glow Drops

Last friday was Black Friday, so that meant a lot of big sales. I found a good sale on make-up and decided to try some new things out. Today I’m going to show you the new Essence Glow Drops, a liquid highlighter. I’ve never tried one before, so let’s dive right in!

Let’s start off with a bit of basic info. This liquid highlighter is from the November trend edition: Made To Sparkle. Everything is in a sparkle theme, fit for the upcoming holiday’s and to celebrate the 15 year birthday of Essence. The Glow Drops are only available in one colour: 01 Oh, it’s so glow!

I think the bottle looks really nice, and quite professional for a low-budget brand. The matte glass makes sure it doesn’t seem tacky. It’s quite a heavy bottle, it feels strong and secure.

This is what the brand says about their product: “This liquid highlighter comes in a practical dropper packaging to make dosage super easy and can be worn solo or mixed with foundation for a radiant complexion.” Let’s see if that’s true.

INGREDIENTS: AQUA (WATER), PROPYLENE GLYCOL, MICA, GLYCERYL STEARATE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, MAGNESIUM ALUMINUM SILICATE, OLEYL ALCOHOL, STEARIC ACID, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, HEXYLENE GLYCOL, CARBOMER, TIN OXIDE, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, PHENOXYETHANOL, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), HEXYL CINNAMAL, LINALOOL, CI 77163 (BISMUTH OXYCHLORIDE), CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77492 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE).

The packaging comes with a handy dropper. You just squeeze it and it fills itself with highlighter, then squeeze it to put some on your skin/brush/etc. The dropper is very easy, but you easily squeeze too much out.

Here is a quick swatch of the product. Sadly, my camera doesn’t catch the highlight as well as in real life. Here you can see the highlight is a bit of a nude/gold colour. The problem with the formula is that you need quite a bit to get a good highlight, but you can’t put too much of this highlighter on, because it won’t all go on your face. If you put a lot on your face and distribute it with, for example, your finger, at least half of the product will go to your fingers. Apart from that, the product works very nicely. If you don’t use too much, it’s very easy to blend in and it gives you a very healthy looking glow. I haven’t tried mixing it with foundation yet, but I will definitely do that soon. Here you see it on my face, with just a little concealer and mattifying powder underneath. Still, the highlight looks better on bare skin than with a layer under it, because the shine will be better visible.

I wish the shine was a bit more visible on camera, because this doesn’t capture the nice glow at all. Overall I’m happy with the Essence Glow Drops. The product provides a healthy, but pretty glow and it’s easy to work with. I’d probably give it a 7/10.

If you have any questions about the product or my opinion, don’t be afraid to ask them! I thought it would be a good idea to try and post more regularly on Wednesdays. During the week you will get a ‘short’ article, like a review, make-up look or outfit, and in the weekend (on Sunday) I will post a more elaborate article about anything I can come up with. Let me know what you think about this, and I’ll see you next Sunday!
