My goals for 2019

You’re probably thinking: “It’s already February and you’re just now posting about your 2019 goals?” Yes. That is correct. Usually I don’t really have New Year’s Resolutionsβ„’, mainly because January 1st is such a weird day to start new habits. Christmas break is still going, there are still a couple of Christmas and birthday parties, and in one or two weeks finals will start. There is just no space and time to think about what I want to achieve and how I’m going to do that. And definitely no time to actually do it. So, now the first month of 2019 is over, I have finally established my goals for this year and I can actually start working on them. Let’s see what they are.

1. Be more healthy

This seems like the most generic goal one can have for the new year. It’s also most of the time a goal that people don’t stick to. I am one of those people. Lately I have just been feeling like my health is not exactly what it should be. I’m easily tired, my body hurts a lot, and I keep having little ailments. That’s also because it is winter, but it is a lot worse than the last few years. That’s why I decided to help my body a bit and be a bit more healthy. I try to take vitamin supplements on days I don’t feel good. I am trying to eat more fresh foods and less fast food and unhealthy snacks. I am joining my local tennis club again and I try to do yoga at home a few times a week. I am also trying to eat more vegetarian and, if possible, vegan meals. I find that very important for the environment and most of the time it doesn’t ask anything more of me than when making my usual meals. It’s just a matter of time to see what my body thinks of this new lifestyle.

 

2. Learn Spanish

Spanish is a language that I’ve always loved. Everytime I hear a Spanish song on the radio, I’m just infatuated by the lyrics. I just always wanted to be able to translate or maybe even speak the language. Speaking in literal sense may be a bit tough for me, because I never learned how to do a rolling ‘R’. Since that’s kind of the main thing in the language, it might not sound that well coming out of my mouth. Haha. I also think it’s an important language, since it’s the third most spoken language in the world. That’s why I started to study the language using the app DuoLingo. I find it a very useful app, but it does not explain things like grammar thoroughly. It’s the fact that Spanish grammar resembles that of German and French, so I was able to recognize the different ways. But if that isn’t your strong suit and you don’t recognize it yourself, it might be a hard app to study with. But I am very excited to take this studying seriously.

 

3. Don’t forget how to music

In the beginning of this year I had to say goodbye to my saxophone. It is owned by the orchestra I played in, and since I’m not able to play there anymore I had to give it back. It makes me very sad, since I absolutely loved playing the soprano sax. I also find it important that I don’t let such a skill go to waste. I practiced for over 8 years on the sax, so I don’t want to lose that. I hope to get my own saxophone this year if I can get one for a not so high price, so I can continue playing this beautiful instrument. I also don’t want to leave music completely alone until then, so I want to learn to better play my ukulele and guitar. I might never be good at either one of them, but I definitely want to practice a bit more so I can stick to music a bit.

 

4. Do more things that I love

I want to spend more of my spare time reading and drawing, in stead of just immediately reaching for YouTube or Netflix when I have a free minute. I love being creative in any way possible, so I want to spend more time doing that. And I do have a goal of reading 12 books this year, so it isn’t weird that I want to do that more often. Especially during breaks I just love sitting in a corner reading a book. I hope I get to do that a lot this year.

 

5. Blog more

And last but not least, I want to spend more time working on my blog. I have a buckload of ideas written down, I just need to work them out and write about them. I want to post two times a week if I can, so we’ll see how that goes. I recently discovered my love for writing again and I can’t wait to let my creativity loose on this platform.
