Review: Essence Stay 8H Matte Liquid Lipsticks

Since Essence has just launched their new spring/summer 2020 products, I thought it would be fun to talk about a few of these products again. Today I’m discussing the Stay 8H Matte Liquid Lipsticks. I got these in two shades and I’ve tested them rigorously these past days, so I thought I’d tell you all about it. Let’s get into it!

Let’s talk about the packaging on these babies. These liquid lippies will be replacing the original colour boost liquid lippies, and I must say, this packaging is 100% better. The colour boost lippies looked pretty childish and cheap, and these look so much more professional and expensive. I really like the matte packaging that matches the colour of the lipstick. This liquid lipstick comes in nine different shades, ranging from reds, to nudes, to pinks and to peachy shades. It’s a great collection. I have the colours 05 Date Proof and 08 I Dare You.

The applicator of the lipstick is very thin and long. It may not seem like it, but it’s a very comfortable applicator. It’s very easy to apply your lipstick with and especially easy along the edges of your lips. I approve!

As you can see in the swatches, both lipsticks give off a lot of pigment and look very creamy. Now let’s see what they look like on the lips.

Colour 05 Date Proof on the lips
Colour 08 I Dare You on the lips

As I said, the applicator applies very easily, so that’s a plus. Considering the shades, 05 Date Proof looks absolutely beautiful. I really enjoy this colour and it feels extremely light on the lips. It’s very comfortable. 08 I Dare You is one of the prettiest reds I’ve worn in a long time. It’s the perfect red shade, especially for very pale people like me. The only problem is that you must shake this lipstick and apply it very carefully, since it applies a tiny bit patchy. But still, it feels very light and comfortable. It also stays on really well, I’ve only noticed some crumbling when I was drinking water and such, but it didn’t take away much of the colour. This crumbling is probably due to the formula being pretty dry. You do really need to moisturize your lips when you wear these, but in general they give a great result and both shades look beautifully matte.

In conclusion, I think they’re great liquid lipsticks for the price. Are they high quality lipsticks? Definitely not. They do have some shortcomings, like being dry. However, they give great pigment, are easily applicable and feel very comfortable, and especially for what you’re paying for it. So if you don’t mind a drier lipstick, these ones would be great for you. Of course I can only speak for these two shades, but I expect the other shades to have about the same formula. In total I’m mostly positive about these lipsticks, while they also have their shortages. I want to thank you for reading and I’ll see you next time!
