I just love setting challenges for myself every once in a while, and not just challenges that have to do with makeup. I am crazy about fashion and I just love to come up with new ways to combine my items. I already did a fashion challenge where I dressed like cartoon characters for a week, and that was a lot of fun. So last week I challenged myself to another weekly challenge: dressing monochromatically every day for a week straight! I created five different, monochromatic outfits, one for every workday. If you’re wondering why I only do five: I wear almost only pajamas on the weekends, so there are no outfits for saturday and sunday. Seems logical, right? Anyways, let’s see how I did creating only monochromatic outfits!
For this outfit you may think: but Sanne, it isn’t really monochromatic? Well, it kinda is, but do you know how hard it is to find an outfit in completely the same colour? I chose these items together because the top and jacket had the exact same colour, and you can also find that colour in the pattern of the skirt. The shoes are actually also burgundy, but with a black top layer. So the shoes look red in most lighting, but can also look black. That’s why I chose them for this outfit, because they are actually burgundy like the rest of the items. This one was already really tough to do! However, I do think it’s a decent outfit and it actually looks like it’s styled and not like I just threw some same coloured items together. I quite like this outfit.
You would think that blue is an easy colour to do, since most jeans are blue. Well, it wasn’t. The most annoying thing was that I don’t have any blue shoes, so those white ones mess up the look quite a bit. Besides that, I think this outfit is very boring in general. The coat spices things up a bit, but you’re not constantly wearing that coat. So the actual look is just a blue shirt with blue jeans. It’s just not my kind of thing. This one was definitely my least favourite outfit and I’m not proud of it, haha.
Again, the biggest problem with this outfit were the shoes. I only have black, white and beige shoes, and one pair of red/black shoes. So, no yellow ones as you can tell. We just have to deal with black shoes. It’s whatever. The other problem that I had was that I own a lot of yellow items, but each one of them seems to be a slightly different colour. Also, I have a lot of items with funky patterns, which don’t match together at all. It was tough, but I managed to find a skirt and top which matched almost perfectly. Is it a combination that I would wear more often? No, probably not. But I also didn’t hate it.
I never thought I would be able to create a completely white outfit. I have always hated white, because it would make me look so weird and pale. Now I have embraced the whiteness in my skin and I like to wear white every once in a while. But a full on white outfit? That’s new to me. I don’t mind it though! The only thing I didn’t like is that the top and shorts are just a slightly different shade of white. But that’s fine. I kinda like this outfit! I’m just not sure if I would wear it again, because I’m such a fan of colours, I just can’t wear something white without adding something coloured.
And for the final day, of course I had to do a full on black outfit. I used to wear a lot of black and my everyday vibe was often a completely black fit. So I own enough black items to create such an outfit. I first wanted to go more into the classy realm, since I’m very used to the more ‘badass’ type of black outfit. However, I wasn’t really able to pull that together, so I thought: why not take this grunge theme to the extreme. So I wore a very grung-y/badass black outfit, which is definitely not my style anymore. I do really like it! I just think the skirt makes me look really short. But that’s about it. It’s definitely a cute outfit on it’s own, and you would not suspect that I was doing some type of fashion challenge!
And that concludes this fashion challenge already! I think the most important thing I learned is that I don’t like to wear the same colours together. I like to mix colours or wear very colourful items together with black items. The first outfit I’d wear again, because that doesn’t scream monochromatic, but it does look well together. I probably won’t wear the blue, yellow and white outfit again, but I’d always wear a completely black fit. I don’t know, I guess monochromatic looks just aren’t for me. Let me know if you like to wear monochrome looks. I want to thank you for reading, and I’ll see you next time!
